Abstract
Revitalisation is an omnidirectional, multi-step process the main goal of which is to revive a degraded urban organism. Paradoxically, the economic and social exclusion concerns particularly downtown areas, which are an important part of the cities. Multifunctional, often historically and artistically rich, the downtown areas are experiencing problems the effects of which are felt by all of the inhabitants of the city. However, the downtown deterioration process can be prevented. There is a need to involve all actors who are connected to the given space and to conduct investment and so called ‘soft actions’. Additionally, an appropriate needs-based plan of action involving the area users is required.
